The problem

Why this is worth building

Most rotas live in a spreadsheet, with availability in someone’s head and changes in a group chat. A missed shift only comes to light when nobody turns up, and overtime only shows on payday.

Who could use this

Cafés, restaurants, retail, clinics and care teams: any business that builds a rota in a spreadsheet.

Design decisions

Why it works the way it does

Nothing here is an accident. These are the choices that made it feel obvious.

  1. 1

Gaps and overlaps you can see

Each day has a lane per role on a real timeline, like a calendar. Nobody scheduled shows as a hatched block, and two people on one role show as a striped band.

  2. 2

Edit by dragging, in 15-minute steps

Pull a shift’s edge to extend it and it snaps to the quarter hour, so times stay tidy. Every change can be undone, and buttons do the same job for keyboards.

  3. 3

    Automatic, but the owner decides

Auto-schedule follows roles, availability and your rules, then shows a draft beside the current week. When a shift can’t be filled, it says exactly why.

  4. 4

    The app does the checking

“Find cover” lists who can take the shift, with the best choice first and a plain reason for everyone else: already working, day off or overtime.

  5. 5

    Warn rather than forbid

Overtime is sometimes the right call, so it stays possible and is clearly flagged. Real impossibilities, like a double booking, are blocked.

  6. 6

Everyone’s changes meet in one place

When an employee taps “Can’t make it”, the shift opens on the manager’s view with the reason. Undo is always one click away.

For your business

What it would take to make this yours

A demo proves the experience. A real version runs on your rules and connects to your tools. Typical additions:

  • Staff logins and a phone view, with notifications for new and changed shifts
  • Shift swaps and time-off requests with manager approval
  • Clock in and out, with hours exported to your payroll
  • Your rules: break times, certifications, multiple locations and sales-based staffing
